SBA 7(a) or 504: Which Loan Fits Your Deal?
· David Sheets
SBA 7(a) and 504 solve different problems, and the wrong pick wastes time.
A 7(a) loan is the general-purpose option. It can cover working capital, inventory, buying a business, refinancing debt, or real estate in one loan. If your deal mixes several uses, 7(a) usually fits.
A 504 loan is built for one thing: buying or building the property or heavy equipment your business will use. It pairs a bank loan with a loan backed by a Certified Development Company, and suits an owner who would rather own the building than rent it.
Ask first: what will the money buy? Mostly real estate or major equipment, look at 504. Anything broader, look at 7(a).
Before you apply, gather recent tax returns, year-to-date financials, a personal financial statement, and a plain summary of what you're buying and why.
SixtyFour West places your deal with lenders whose rules it fits.
